This 2-hour training will focus on developing play therapist's awareness, knowledge, and skills related to assessing, treating, and managing suicidality among youth. An overview of child suicide warning signs and risk factors will be provided and attendees can anticipate learning about developmentally appropriate screening, assessing, and treating methods to help children experiencing suicidality in the playroom. Participants can anticipate identifying a variety of referrals and resources to support children who are suicidal (and their families) in side and outside of the play therapy space.

*Note: This training has a 50 person MAXIMUM and 5 person MINIMUM*

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify common suicide warning signs and risk factors to support effective screening and assessing for suicidality among children in the playroom.

  2. Apply developmentally appropriate treatment to support children and families during play therapy.

  3. Recognize the need for referrals or resources outside of the playroom.

This workshop meets APT’s definition of a NON-CONTACT training and is approved by APT Approved Provider 08-223 for 2 CE hours. APT continuing education credit may only be awarded to mental health professionals.

Refund Policy: Refunds will be given for paid continuing education training cancelled by MAPT and for when MAPT relocated trainings to another region of the state. For attendees who cancel 48 hours prior to the start of the training, a MAPT credit will be provided to attendees for the amount paid and can be used at a future MAPT training.

Virtual Training Expectations for CE Credit

To receive CE credits, APT requires that participants keep their screens on throughout virtual training sessions. We ask that participants approach online trainings as they would in-person workshops by remaining fully engaged, minimizing distractions, and participating from a space that supports focused learning and active involvement.
